The candle/cone is a hollow tube made of cotton fabric and inlaid with honey, beeswax and other ingredients.
The candle is placed at the ear to block off the opening and then lit. This creates a ‘chimney effect’, which causes a very mild suction action. The vapour given off permeates through the ear to the back of the nose/throat; the localised warmth softens the earwax, improves circulation to the area and relaxes the Eustachian tube and the movement of the flame gently vibrates the ear to dislodge any wax.
Historical roots can be found among the peoples of the Siberian prairies, Asia and Ancient Greece. It is the Native American Hopi Indians of Arizona who brought the treatment to the notice of the rest of the world in the 1980’s.
The treatment is not suitable for those with grommets fitted, recent perforated eardrum, ear infection, allergy to honey/beeswax or any of the other ingredients or if oil has been used in the ear less than 24 hours before treatment.
Keep ears out of water, cold winds and draughts for 24 hours.
Drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol, caffeine and nicotine.
Do not use cotton buds (Wipe around ear with tissue to remove any wax that may work its way to the surface after the treatment).
Repeat treatment at 3-7 day intervals to treat problems, then 4-6 weeks as a preventative measure or for relaxation purposes.
